About Us
CareyAir is owned and operated by James Carey (Jim). With a background in Automotive Engineering, Jim worked for Toyota North America for over 30 years before taking early retirement and founding CareyAir. During his time at Toyota, Jim held a variety of roles from Product Engineering to Technical Training to Finance and Insurance to Director level responsibility for developing Toyota's Customer Loyalty Programs.
As a pilot and aircraft owner for over 20 years, Jim's introduction to the world of EAB aircraft was similar to many. Tired of the expense of maintaining a Piper Cherokee and looking for a more capable aircraft, he saw the RV series at Oshkosh and committed to building a -10. Building grew from a hobby to an obsession and soon, fellow builders began to seek out Jim's help and guidance.
Although he didn't set out to build a show plane, Jim's craftsmanship and perseverance were recognized when N415JS was awarded Kit Champion at Oshkosh 2019. Two months later, he set off on a lifetime dream to fly across the Atlantic solo in his -10 from Chicago to Ireland. To learn more about that epic adventure, click here.
Throughout his professional career and builder journey, Jim found that he had a particular aptitude for teaching technical content to an adult audience and that he greatly enjoyed it. Combining this with his passion for aviation and building was the foundation for CareyAir.
